Golden Rivet Beaker - Callum Partridge
CRAFTMASTERS EXCLUSIVE
Callum Partridge’s Golden Rivet beaker was one of seven beakers commissioned in 2021 as part of Craftmasters Bullion Award scheme, supporting early career makers. Callum’s response to the award was to create this sublime piece of silversmithing, poetically underplayed and restrained, yet with a cheeky nod to the process of beginning a career! The Legend of the Golden Rivet stems from inception rites performed on ships, where junior ratings are sent with a brush and a tin of gold paint, to find and renovate ‘The Golden Rivet’. Needless to say, this is a fruitless task, and the rivet doesn’t exist! In Callum’s world however, golden rivets are entirely possible and this miniature rivet, through the base of this deliciously hand raised beaker creates a wonderful exclamation mark to the prowess of this young maker’s work. The form is deceivingly simple, the beaker has a subtly curved base which joins the sides at a crisply formed edge - this is one which was incredibly hard to part with for the website!
