Following on from her mesmerising and hugely popular design, Solace; Alex has brought the story full circle with her new design, Umbra - which is just as seductive as Solace!
Inspired by Alex’s walks through the swirling grassland on Penwith Moor. Umbra captures the fleeting world created by the wind on the grasses in a Heathcliffish, brooding kind of way. The nature of the piece is mirrored poignantly by the tooling used to create Umbra: a rusty old hammer which cannot be copied or repeated, this tool, like the landscape is ever changing.
Umbra is redolent of Alex’s experience of being present in a moment in this landscape. A moment which is captured and encoded into the silver.
Umbra takes the same form as Solace, and has also has a repetitively chased surface, the grass shimmers and swirls to a vortex at it’s base. The exterior is lavishly plated in rhodium to create a moody, graphite grey surface, the interior is richly gold plated - the perfect foil to Solace.
Please note due to the nature of the tools used in this piece, this is an exclusive limited edition with a maximum of 50. The edition run may be reduced as the hammer marks will change over use. Umbra cups will be laser etched with their unique limited edition number.
